bebe-profile_raw-showBecky Bearse (bebE) has been dancing since the age of three.  Originally from Concord, Massachusetts, Becky began her training in ballet, tap and jazz, and eventually fell in love with more percussive forms of dance, ranging from Latin, African, hip-hop, modern, breakdancing and house.  Becky has taught children and adults of all ages and levels at schools, dance studios and non-profits all over the U.S.  She has trained with such teachers as Mady Cantor, Debora Chase-Hicks, Leslie Butler, Dan Wagoner, Naby Bangoura, Arthur Hall, Denise Leitner and Dante.  In Los Angeles, Becky was teaching assistant to hip-hop teacher Kemba Shannon, who toured with Pink, Madonna and Celine Dion.  Becky has also danced as a principal dancer with Donlavy Dance in LA and as a training member of San Francisco’s Loose Change Dance Company.

In 2011, Becky began producing works in the Bay and in 2013 formed beBE dance.  As a fusion choreographer, Becky seeks to break the molds of traditional modern dance by fusing together multiple dance forms to create a new dance vocabulary with which to tell stories relating to the human experience.  Working in a non-traditional Lab setting, Becky provides the structure, support and space for her dancers to be fully part of all of her works, bringing them into the artistic process and her vision from the beginning.  Drawing great inspiration from Alvin Ailey, Judith Jamison, Margaret Jenkins and Robert Battle, Becky is fascinated with movement in all its forms and its ability to transport others into imaginary worlds.

Becky has presented works across the Bay Area at venues such as the Walt Disney Family Museum, CounterPULSE’s 2nd Sundays, Works in the Works, Dance Mission’s New Choreographers’ Showcase and The Garage.  Becky has had the honor of being a Resident Artist with The Garage’s RAW (Resident Artist Workshop) and LevyDANCE’s Salon Series.  Becky is a former teaching artist with LEAP…Imagination in Learning, a San Francisco based arts education organization that places artists in public school residencies.  Abundantly curious and in love with movement, Becky shares her passion for her art form by empowering students with the tools to be creative movers, thinkers and problem solvers in a supportive and fun environment.  Through dance, Becky has gained powerful skills in leadership, creative and critical thinking, and problem solving, and finds great parallels and inspiration from this work to her current role as a Diversity and Inclusion Consultant to global Fortune 500 companies.

Becky holds her BA in Dance, English and Education from Bryn Mawr College, her M. Ed from Harvard’s Arts in Education Program at the Graduate School of Education and her MA from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
